Quicksilver is famous for their high qualtiy titanium silencers. Their customers include SWAT, Federal Air Marshall's, FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, and other elite agencies. About Quicksilver: Shop Error Sets Quicksilver Manufacturing in Motion My younger brother, Christopher, and I have always been firearms enthusiasts. We had a partnership in an ear, nose and throat practice in Alabama. One of our patients had previously worked for a Class II manufacturer and got us interested in silencer design. Christopher had purchased some machine shop equipment from an estate so we decided to get a federal firearms license to manufacture our own silencers. Our first efforts involved silencing a Ruger 10-22 rifle and an old Ruger Mark 1 pistol that I had. These seemed to work very well, so we moved up to 9 mm submachine gun silencers. The 9 mm proved to be much more of a challenge and took close to a year of work before we had a satisfactory design. In 1999 Christopher moved back to California and I had to close the medical practice due to degenerative disc disease in my spine. After moving to Idaho I continued to make suppressed Ruger rifles and pistols in small numbers. This came to the attention of a local gun store owner, who also owned a machine shop. We worked together on producing a larger number of .22 suppressors, which sold quite well. In 2002 I was working on a design for a .223 suppressor and decided to make it out of titanium, since it seemed to me that the units made of steel were much too heavy. I was working on the design for the blast baffle and lost track of how many revolutions my rotary table had made in the milling machine. I had accidentally cut one of the slots twice as long as I intended. The piece was virtually finished, so I decided to go ahead and test it in the suppressor. To my surprise and delight, I found that the baffle produced excellent sound suppression and even seemed to mask the sonic crack at close distances. I had the machine shop produce ten copies of the original design on their Mazak CNC machine. This was the original production run that started our line of titanium sound suppressors. I contacted Al Poulson to test and possibly write an article about our new suppressor. He tested the unit extensively and published an article in Guns And Weapons For Law Enforcement. About the same time I was also introduced to John Shaw, owner of MidSouth Institute and former world pistol champion. I sent him two of our suppressors for evaluation and testing. John later recommended these to several of his acquaintances, which started a chain of events that led to sales to government agencies, law enforcement and movie stars. Quicksilver Manufacturing LLC went from a part time hobby to a full time business in 2006 with nationwide sales and continues to grow at an astounding pace. Jay J.
